The 74th Annual Meeting of the Division of Fluid Dynamics will be held in Phoenix, AZ, on November 21-23rd. We are looking forward to reconnecting in person with colleagues and friends for the 2021 meeting. Our aim is to provide a regular in-person conference experience; however, to provide a safe meeting environment, some meeting aspects will be different compared to prior years. These include a vaccination requirement for all attendees, a masking requirement inside the convention center, combined session meeting rooms to allow for better physical spacing of attendees, an outdoors reception at the Convention Center, and refreshment breaks that minimize as much as possible crowd sizes.
While the conference is primarily an in-person event, a virtual component will be available to members that cannot travel to Phoenix to attend the conference in person. The in-person meeting will be conducted as it has been in the past. Virtual attendees will be able to view recorded presentations of oral sessions, invited talks, mini-symposia, certain focus sessions, and select regular sessions as well as pdfs of poster presentations, contingent upon presenter consent. All Q&A for pre-recorded presentations/ posters will occur asynchronously via the conference platform.
Registration for the Meeting will give access to both modes. This means that a registrant can decide on their own schedule whether they would like to attend in-person or virtual, taking the evolving pandemic situation into account, and do not need to decide on the attendance mode at the time of registration+.
In addition to all other rules and regulations relating to attendance at the DFD Annual Meeting, In-Person attendees agree to:
- Be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and submit an attestation to their vaccination status prior to attending the meeting.
- Submit the results of a negative PCR Covid test taken within 3 days of your arrival at the Convention Center. APS is now also accepting certain antigen tests taken within 24 hours of arrival at the Convention Center. Specific information can be found under the 11/5 Update in the Conference Info section on this website.
- Wear a mask fully covering their nose and mouth while indoors at the Convention Center.
- Agree to comply with all COVID-related procedures implemented by DFD and the Phoenix Convention Center.
We will be sending out emails to the membership as the meeting approaches with details on providing vaccination attestation, submitting PCR test results, and uploading presentations.
We look forward to a successful meeting in November and welcome the opportunity to meet in person.
